Exhaust Fumes
Ok gang, after our cruise last Friday it was brought to my attention that my car really does smell like a school bus! I've installed the O/R H new flow's and tips but haven't done any tunes to the car. A tuner is expensive! Anyway, is this the only way to fix the smell? It smells like oil to me but I don't have any smoke, of course there is a small amount when I really get on it but not enough to worry about. Could I have deeper issues than a tune, maybe. My car has 165k miles and with what it's been through prior to me purchasing it, it is a definite possibility. Leaky valve seals, old motor, worn out rings? Any suggestions that you guys have are always appreciated.

I'll keep ya posted on that one.

Re: Exhaust Fumes
Richard,
If you want i can show you how to DIY a catch can on your pcv system to eliminate some of the "blow by" which causes your car to smoke. Cost is about 20 bux! my car has at least 165 grand on it (thats where the odo. quit working) and i used to smoke the mosquitos going down the interstate, after this... no smoke...

(Serious tone in my voice) Tim, I'm sure I don't have to remind you that this is a family site. (Even thought there's no one under 18 here.) We do not need to be given visualizations of your big obnoxiously grotesque feet.
Re: Exhaust Fumes

Re: Exhaust Fumes
In 01, I think, Ford beefed up the heads and intakes on the motors giving them more HP. These parts are interchangable with Non PI motors. PI is for Performance Improved motor. Mike probably knows exactly what they did differently but that's the jist of it.

Re: Exhaust Fumes
in 99 ford went to with "P"ower "I"mproved engines which had better flowing heads, cam profile and intake manifolds. 99+ GT engines also have different pistons. Which is why when you put 99+ heads on a NPI (94-98) modular engine you increase your static CR to around 10.6:1, year depending. (the pistons were still crappy HT.)
99-mid01 were Windsors and mid01-04 Were Romeos Neither is better than the other, just different.

Re: Exhaust Fumes
cool thanks,
with a right tune do you think you could up the compression to say 12:1 w/o risk of detonation on a PI swap or are the pistons not the right setup?

here's a pretty cool site for numbers on the NPI and PI plus all other mod motors. http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/modular-mustangs/135743-modular-4-6-5-4-6-8l-engine-info.html
