Help me choose the next project build.
First off, Vettes can suck my D***.
Most of you know I'm done with my car and it's now on it's down cycle
and most of the parts have been shipped out. (No turning back now,
lol.)
I'm starting to think about my next project and the 4.6 GD has been my
home since 2006 so I wanted your input. The list is pretty short.
65/66 Mustang Coupe or fastback (Leaning to a coupe for initial cost and
availability)
70 mach1
The 65/66 is my first choice at the top of my list. It would have a SBF
302 with a F/I and a single turbo for 400rwhp. (no more than that
ever.) If I don't do the 302 it would be a stroked 351 with 400rw.
Here is my muses: (btw Elanor/Nick Cage body kits are for kids.)
The 240Z is now out of the running.
If I built a 70 this is what it would mostly look like but maybe in a black, green or dark blue.
As for the 65/66, you can't argue with the beauty those cars have even
in stock form.
I'm going to drive this car A LOT. It will hit SCCA track events
several times a year and I will keep the car at least 80% on the road
during the build and will be my primary driver from spring till fall.
My biggest issue with my 96 was that I was always so nervous to drive it
anywhere for fear of the paint and there was always so much down time
because of one reason or another between projects.
The next car will have the primary built engine siting on a stand and
it's not going in until I can swap it over one weekend and get back to
driving.
In the order of importance on the next build will be:

In the order of importance on the next build will be:
- The Drive line (It doesn't matter how it looks if it isn't
reliable.) - Floors, 200lbs of dynomat, lol.
- Body work (No paint) welding, rust, flares etc.
- Even coats of primer
- Suspension & chassis
- Then full on custom interior. I finally get to put my Jedi MECP
master skills to work along with a 100% custom dash and center console.
(You can't do that with new cars, it just looks tacky.) - Paint? We don't nee don't stinkin paint. But it will be "single
stage" 57 Ford Raven black with some subtle custom design.

Re: Help me choose the next project build.
i like all your choices xcept the 71 never did like any of the stang body styles between 71-78 i think the designer was on crack but if i had to choose my favorite and next build will be the mach or a boss from 69-70

Re: Help me choose the next project build.
In my opinion I think you're the type of person that should just buy a car that is done or almost done. I have never met someone that changes their mind about what they are or are not doing to their car as much as you.
If you buy a completed hot rod when you get bored you can Sell or Trade it for your next hot rod. I know a few old school hot roders and that is what they do and they never seem to bored with what they are driving.
Think of all the $ you have lost because of your need to always have something different

Ditto!
PS: I have always been partial to the 70 Mach or fastback.
Re: Help me choose the next project build.
You should keep in mind the '67/68 coupes. I've always liked the snout on those, looks more aggressive than the '65/66's. My fav would have to be the '70 though. You will definitely have to commit to a certain plan though, or you may never get it completed, lol!

Re: Help me choose the next project build.
You have no idea how relieved I felt once I shipped out the first parts off my car. This is the best car decision I've made in a long time and I am 110% this is what's going to happen. Don't worry, no back and forth with this now.
The biggest problem with my 96 is, I realized a few years ago that I wanted something different but I was too pig headed to give up on it. I want a nice long term project that sits in primer and has a little "work in progress" sticker in the window. I'm not worried about wanting to sell it after I get it, I've been dreaming an old car almost since I sold my last old car.
Now the big question is what way I want to go with the powertrain. I was wanting a Fox motor then throw on a turbo kit to make a nice 400rw but I can't help but think I'd be happier with a 10:5:1 compression 351 or a 427 built for high revs and a good 400rw. An NA carburated engine would be fool proof and there would be nothing I could fix in a day. If I drop in a F/I fox engine I'd be back with dealing with the BS of tuning and crap.

Re: Help me choose the next project build.
That's a beautiful ride sir. Build that one and I'll drive to MI to cruise with you!!! Good luck Mike, I think that your making the right decision for your purchase. Still hate to see the other one go though.

The more I play with the 70 mustangs the more I like them.
Re: Help me choose the next project build.
Totally Epic!
PS: I also wouldn't mind a 69 Stang w/ 351 Windsor either.

Re: Help me choose the next project build.
My brother had one. He regrets that sale. The buyer's kid molded it to a power line pole. That car is what made me dream of owning one. Now I just gotta get me a '70 and I'll be set.1fstroush wrote:Totally Epic!
