"slow" Tach Empty "slow" Tach

We had a new car come out the our last meet. '05-'10 GT. At idle his tach is at 0 RPMs. When he hits the gas, it is slow to move and does not show the proper RPM. Anyone know what could cause this? or how to fix it? I don't know right now if he has any mods.
