Saturday Pictures at Old Columbia Speedway!!!

Ok SC Wildhorses, we have been granted access to the Old Columbia Speedway for photos on Saturday 2/19 at 11:30am. Please let me know if you can make it out. I would love to get a good group picture for our home page that is currently in the making. Lets make a good showing as this also gets our foot in the door for the April 15th show!!!

Thanks David. The guy that's running it now is super nice and was very willing to let us in. In case you aren't familiar some of the original Nascar legends used to race at the columbia speedway when it was a dirt track. They tried to keep it going by paving it but with Darlington, Talladega and Dayton the half mile track just couldn't compete. It was doomed for destruction until a private investor purchased the property a few years ago and decided to revamp the entire site and make it a monument. They now have an annual "Legends of Nascar" show where some of those drivers show and sign autographs, the SC Wildhorses are scheduled to show here this year! I'm very excited about this and hope that we can get a good turnout.

Are we gonna be able to perhaps drive around the track and get some moving shoots? Not sure how much supervision or restriction we would be under.

I would think that we probably will not be able to get on the track. John is going to meet me there at 11 and go over the do's and don'ts so I will know more then. Seeing that we're inviting the public to come get their car pictures taken as well, I don't want our name responsible for someone else messing up. I hope that makes sense. If we are allowed access to the track it will be for members only.

anything else going on besides the pictures? like perhaps driving to a high traffic spot and parking the cars and handing out flyers?

Not a bad idea. David and I have been working on flyers and recruiting letters. Just depends on how many we can get printed. I have posted the event on several other forums and event listings in hopes that we can get new members to come get their picture taken and hear about the club. We'll see, you gonna make it?

trying to talk my wife into it right now LOL... all you really have to do is get one flyer made up and kinko's will make 100 copies for something like $8 last i checked...

I already printed 20 and I think that David printed some as well. I will be printing more tomorrow at work so we should have quite a few.

alright i can not find an address on this place anywhere and all i know about columbia is that it is straight up 26W LOL... HELP!!!!

Get off exit 111 toward West Columbia, and you'll be on HWY 321. Turn right at the light and go about two miles. You'll go through three traffic lights and the track will be on your right. I have to meet the guy there in the moring at 10:30 and I will try to get down to the interstate to make sure the exit number is correct. Call me when you get close and I'll help you find the rest of the way.
