hey I have not broken mine yet!!!! I bought it broke and hope it does not have to go back into the mustang hospital again!!!!
CAN I get some opinions here. Joe says the cobra needs a 6 speed but can anyone know if a 5 speed will work in the cobra? please give me your opinion as to why or why not?

If it's a "terminator" ('03/04) Cobra you need to run the 6-spd.. I'm sure anything could be converted to a 2,3,4 or 5 speed, but I wouldn't do it..
Is the trans that bad? Meaning, they can't rebuild it? If that's the case, I'd hate to see what that thing looks like.. :*bonk(:

Re: The Sideline Club
You don't "NEED" to run a 6 spd if you dont want to If you get a great deal on a 5 spd, I say go for it.. An 03 04 Mach 1 five speed will bolt right up. If you are interested in keeping it original or as close as you can get then yea a 6 spd but if this is a fun car or race car go with whatever you can afford.
And ya the tranny that was in it had the gear cluster destroyed and taken apart so no rebuilding it.

Re: The Sideline Club
convert it to an auto and get dirtydog and his buddy to build a tranny that motor simply cannot hurt.

Re: The Sideline Club
You can use any tr3650 out of any 01.5-04 gt and the mach 1's. You can find them used for a few hundred.
Who ever you bought that car from must have been the worst driver in the entire world. A T56 is supposed to handle 75hp more then a TR3650 and my stock 3650 handles 700hp like a champ.

Re: The Sideline Club
your probably not gonna find a tranny thats either strong enough or in good enough condition to handle your car's HP or TQ output at the flywheel for a few hundred bucks

Ive seen many scatter at 400-500 hp range. If they really were that bullet proof Id put a stock one in my car and save about 3 grand. A lot depends on how the power is transfered, side stepping the clutch can really destroy even a hardened trany.

Here is a cheap one. I think I still have a stock driveshaft you can have if you decide to go the 3650 route.

Re: The Sideline Club
Honestly.. I'm not trying to be mean at all, but I think you should put a 6-speed back in it. Check around with some salvage yards like MPS Auto salvage or something like that. http://www.mpsautosalvage.com/sunshop/index.php?l=page_view&p=contact_us
The only reason why you shoud change it is to go with something like a 4-spd racing trans. or something of that nature.. Just my honest opinion.

I agree. Why put something in your car that your not sure about. It makes no since to put a 5 speed in a car that came with/ requires a 6 speed

I think you guys are missing the point. She doesn't have the cash to drop on a t56 right now. A 3650 will work just fine until she ever has the cash to put a t56 back in. It's just a cobra it's not going to break a 3650. As long as she drives smart and doesn't drop from 5th to 3rd at 70mph she will be fine. I launch my car at 4000rpms and the tranny never flintches.

Not missing the point at all.. Why pay for a Trans. that isn't meant to go in the car, have it installed then turn around and replace it with what should have been put in from the get go? Makes more sense to do it right the first time..

Yeah good on ya! It sucks being broke and having to wait or amke hard choices but really it's better to do it right the first time.
