Electric Mustangs???
For all you Ford Mustang fans out there holding out hope the blue oval will produce an electric Mustang someday your wait is over. No, Ford is not producing an electric Mustang but a company called Plug-In Motors out of Denver, Colorado is. Plug-In Motors, co-founded by Kurt Neugens, 17-year Ford engineer and Travis Winkleman, a development engineer for the Roush Nascar Racing Team are using the Mustang as there starting point for their company.
The electric Ford Mustangs they are building will use lithium iron phosphate batteries, an AC induction motor and adjustable regenerative braking to power the vehicle. They will offer this technology in a few different packages for the Mustang, one will propel the Mustang from 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds and have a top speed of 85 mph. Another package will have much slower acceleration but have a top end of around 105 mph. Range for these electric Mustangs will vary from 85 miles on one charge for the cheapest package and if you opt for more batteries you can get 200 miles on one charge. Pricing for these Mustangs does not include the purchase of a brand new V-6 Mustang but expect to pay between $4-11K for these electric packages.
