Tech support needed!!!
As some of you know... alot of upgrades are being done to the stang.... including aftermarket heads, cam, headers, fuel injectors, intake manifold, and possibly spray!!! The prob I am running into is i have heard several things about my lower end not being able to take all the HP!!! A guy I was talking to said that the sec I sprayed my 75 shot... I would throw a rod through my block!!! He suggested I run with forged rods and a main girdle (around $400) to hold up to 500 HP..... I am completely lost and have no idea what to do..... need some advise and tech expertise!!!

Re: Tech support needed!!!
Alot of it is going to depend on the tune and how you drive it. In my opinion its not worth just doing just the rods, you might as well do the whole rotating assembly.

Re: Tech support needed!!!
I've always been told that a stock 5.0 bottom end can take up to (nervously) 500 hp. Anything over that and you're asking for trouble. Got a bud w/ a turbo setup, aftermarket heads, custom cam, etc.... w/ a stock bottom end and it held fine (but doesn't push it past 500).
Delk blew the headgaskets off at 750 though... grrrrr.

Re: Tech support needed!!!
they are saying even without the spray I will be around 400 if not jus over.... so if i do a 75 shot.... i will be close to 500.... so im not sure what I should do!!

plan your build before you just throw parts at it.

Dyno it first w/o spray and go from there. Get a baseline and you'll have a better idea of where you are at.

Re: Tech support needed!!!
i don't see where basic bolt-on's and heads are gonna take it from 200 to 400hp... my car has basically all the bolt on's just not heads and i threw a 75 shot at it without a tune and it didn't blow so as long as you do a tune you should be fine...

Re: Tech support needed!!!
Up to the 500 mark it is all about the tune and proper A/F. As for the 75 shot, the safest bet is a wet shot to add fuel and in reality a 75 shot is only going toi produce 60 to 65 at the wheels.

Re: Tech support needed!!!
Zack my first suggestion would be to get a new ECM... your 5.0 is running 16.5's and a stock 3.8 runs a 16.0's... for some reason your car hits a rev limiter very early, one place i checked said ODBI cars should not have a rev limiter (w/o MSD ignition) and another source said it would but not until 5200 RPM's)... also it shifts funky so before throwing more performace parts at it i suggest i new ECM cause something is screwy with yours

Re: Tech support needed!!!
AFR heads an E303 cam and a better shortblock. Don't forget the tune!!!! The block is really the big problem for when you get to higher number H/P. I wont say, "You're good till xxhp" because every car is really different. I would never shoot for more than 350hp without building the bottom. Being that your car is so old and you are not the first owner, I wouldn't trust it.
Also remember, NO ONE talks about FWHP (Flywheel Horse Power) anymore so all references to Hp should be made to RWHP (Rear Wheel Horse Power). the difference is anywhere between 15 & 22% from the engine to the wheels. Like me, my engine is making 585rwhp which is 672fwhp at 15%. (22% being worse case Automatic transmission)
Everything I've ever read or seen says that the "Block" is the weak point (not just the internals) on post '79 302's. I've seen two 5oh blocks split in half from nitrous at about 550. If you safely/reliably want to ever make more Hp than that, buy an aftermarket block.
If your engine has a fresh build, I wouldn't have any problems seeing you with a shot of nitrous if well supported and "TUNED".

Re: Tech support needed!!!
Zack's car is an automatic so your looking at the 22%HP loss.. also its my old motor and as far as i know there has never been a rebuild on it, its a 5.0 out of a 94 GT and when he bought it i believe it had like 74,000 miles on it...

Re: Tech support needed!!!
74K and Shady's driving skills = the need to rebuild ASAP
Seriously, Zack if you want power do it right from the beginning. Throwing this and that at it will only stress other OEM parts out and could cause way more damage than necessary. Take the engine apart and replace it with quality goods, not OEM, or used parts. You'll be able to have way more fun with it then, due to less worry about breaking things.

Re: Tech support needed!!!
what about running a single turbo with an aftermarket intake and 24lbs injectors and 80MM mass air meter?

What about it? You need to stop thinking so fast and the furious and start thinking realistically before you waist all your wifes money and still not have a car that's worth a pound of gas. You are obviously a car virgin and you're going to learn some pricey lessons if you don't take our advice.
Re: Tech support needed!!!
This isn't bad advise Zack. Everyone has already gone through some of these same problems and they're just trying to warn ya. But, it is your ride and you ultimately must make your own decision on improving performance. Just make sure you do the research, and a lot of it.

Zack, we have all been in your shoes at one time or another. I'm not going to give you another "listen to me" or "take it from us" speech. You need to learn things on your own. Learning the HARD way is just that HARD. If you don't have the time, money, knowledge, etc... Please read up on what your are and are not allowed to do to your engine and car. The last thing we want to read is that you joined the Vented Block Club (VBC). The VBC is a place for those that like to push the limits and have the ability to bounce back once they fall.

Re: Tech support needed!!!
thanx guys!!! After talking to some people they all told me if I am gonna put an air ride on my car not to make it too fast.... I think im jus gonna get it painted... do a few more mods.... than buy another mustang for the track!!

Re: Tech support needed!!!
oh yeah Zack i could have told you that... air ride cars shift way to easily and there is no way you could control a high HP air ride car, hence why the air ride didn't go on my black car because i knew future plans would not accomodate air ride. Basically choose a category and go with it, your not going to want a nicely painted air ride equiped track car due to the issues that come with those type of mods, not only would you not be able to control the car but if you blow a tire at high speeds you are likely to throw the tire and there goes your body kit. That and the rubber from burnouts is a ***** to get of your nice paint.... Pick either show or track and go with it, you can't really have both...

all i've done to the show point of my car is the doors cause i had them laying around, i plan on getting rid of the 20's and that ridiculous hood and just keeping a clean look while making the car faster, or so i hope LOL.. and yeah mike i was probably the one that said that cause it sounds like something i would say but i've tried that "show car" attracting the women thing and it was a V-6 LOL. now i got the pre-made family just add Rick and wasn't ready to mature so time to try a fast car... now if i just would win the lotto it could be fast
