The 2010 Hurst Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Pace Car, built by Hurst Performance Vehicles in conjunction with Ford Racing, sold at the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale for $70,000.

A full 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation. The foundation was formed to support research towards the diagnosis, treatment and development of a cure for pediatric cancer, and to provide support and hope to children and families undergoing treatment, as well as those who have lost children due to cancer. Through Hatch’s house of hope, the Austin Hatcher Foundation provides a landmark group of educational, emotional and social skills development programs essential to help cancer stricken children and their families succeed within their community.

After its run as the pace car for the final year of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series, the unique and highly-collectible car made a number of special appearances throughout the nation including a stop on the Hot Rod Power Tour and at the 2010 SEMA show, before being presented for auction in Scottsdale.

“Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale is the premiere auction in the country for specialty hot rods and collector cars to be sold,” said Hurst Performance President and Chairman, Nate Shelton. “It’s nice to see we were able leverage the excitement around this event and raise money for a great organization that helps so many.”

The stunning Hurst Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Pace Car comes equipped with 20” BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires for maximum performance and attitude, a set of 20” Hurst polished, forged aluminum wheels, a Hurst Competition/Plus shifter with a black T-handle and is finished in the company’s trademark black and gold paint scheme.

The 4.6L V8, tuned to generate 550-horsepower and 542 lb.-ft of torque courtesy of the Ford Racing polished supercharger, produces nearly 200-horsepower more than the FR500S Mustangs that competed in the final season of the Mustang Challenge. The car also comes equipped with a Ford Racing FR500S stainless-steel cat-back exhaust and K&N filter. The upgraded braking system, featuring 14″ rotors and 4-piston calipers, and race bred suspension, both by Ford Racing, ensure this car performs as good as it looks.

While the original car is going to the lucky high-bidder, Hurst has already begun to produce and deliver the 50 limited production replicas of the pace car they committed to when the original car was first built. More information: www.hurst-performance.com.
