TENNESSEE UPDATE More Info

Bridgestone USA Tire Corporation is continuing to lobby against State Representative Eric Watson's bill, H.B. 262 that would require Tennessee drivers to pass a driver's license test in English.

Japanese-owned Bridgestone's lobbyist in Nashville is continuing to try and kill the bill despite the fact that Rep. Watson added language to his bill to exempt foreign executives here on temporary visas from having to comply.

There is tremendous irony in the fact that a tire maker like Bridgestone is willing to risk Tennesseans' safety on our roads for the sake of appeasing so-called immigrant's rights groups. After Rep. Watson added the exception for foreign business visitors, international corporations like Volkswagen and Nissan dropped their opposition to the bill.

But Bridgestone refuses to stop its anti-safety campaign!

We need your help! Below is telephone and email contact information for Bridgestone's Vice President for external and public affairs, Christine Karbowiak.

Please call or email Ms. Karbowiak and let her know how you feel about Bridgestone's opposition that strengthens road safety and saves taxpayers money.

Ms. Karbowiak's office telephone: (615) 937-1556

Bridgestone USA's main telephone: (615) 937-1000

Ms. Karbowiak assistant's email: kennerlylouisa@bfusa.com

Here are some ideas of things to say when you call or email.
Why is Bridgestone USA lobbying against Rep. Watson's bill to improve road safety in Tennessee?
Making people applying for a driver's license pass a driver's license test in English will make our roads safer.
Why do we bother putting up warning signs in English if we let people who can't read the signs have driver's licenses?
This bill also will save taxpayers' money at a time when Tennessee needs to eliminate all non-essential spending.
Where will it stop? The Department of Safety says it wants to add driver's license tests in Arabic and Chinese!
If this bill saves even one life it will be worth it.
I am very disappointed that a tire maker like you would be willing to put my family's safety at risk by lobbying against this bill.
Please change your position and support this bill.
Thank you for your consideration.
Please help. It will only take a few minutes to call or email Bridgestone. And it will help us a lot. Thank you.
