Post by scstanger Sun Jan 03, 2010 5:33 pm

Hello everyone,
My name is Richard Dawkins and I live in Lexington, SC. I am married with two children, one is 14 the other is six. My six year old is my boy and he is as passionate about mustangs as I am. We do everything together when it comes to our car. I currently own a 97 GT Convertible that I bought in April 2009 and has been my project ever since. This car had really been put through the ringer and is testing my patience on occasion but I love it and it's mine so here we are. I bought my first mustang in 1998 which was a red 96 GT coupe and I loved my car but the time wasn't right. Now I'm older and have a little man to help me rekindle my passion for this automobile. I don't have a ton of knowledge about them yet but I"m learning as I go since my son and I do the work that it needs ourselves...mostly. Anyway, I'm here to help and would love to meet anyone close who would love to just cruise together and love meeting and getting to know new people. Thanks to everyone.

Richard

Unfortunately, I'm somewhat unfamiliar with the current hotspots as Stacy and I don't go out much anymore. But hopefully we can find, or start, a Lexington based stang club and get together with guys like you to cruise and meet. When are you guys making the move?

That's exactly why there should be one in SC. I'm sure that there are tons of quality, family oriented folks right here that are looking for a wholesome car club to join. Mustang week in Myrtle Beach is 7/18-7/24 and it would be nice to all ride in together. I missed most of last year's but I have already scheduled my vacation for that we and we will definitely be in attendance. Is anyone else going?

Ok, here are a few pictures that I just took with my phone, hopefully they will show up. Please remember that she is a work in progress. When I bougt this car it had three different size tires, no caliper pins etc. and I drove it about 90 miles to my house that way!!! Anyway here she is now.

It's like looking at the pac green version of my car when I first bought it... A nice drop can make even stock wheels look good. From there I'd get that door fixed and see where the ca takes you. It looks like you're missing the abs front cover over the radiator and headlights, I'd fine one of those and do some easy (and cheap) engine detailing with some scratch pads correct code paint.

Good lookin car!

Thanks. I've been wanting to replace the door since I got it but I had to do the safety issues first. I've replaced the rack and pinion, front control arms, caliper kit, fuel pump, radiator, intake, thermostat, plugs, heater box and core, headlights etc. Now that I have heat, and a new top in two weeks, I'm going to start on some of the cosmetics. I definitely want to drop it some but haven't been able to find a kit that I can afford right now since I'm going to need new shocks/struts all the way around as well as the springs. Are coilovers better or should I stick with the stock set up and just get new equipment? Any idea where I can find the abs piece to cover the radiator and headlights? I've tried to look at junkyards around here but with this model being a cash for clunkers vehicle it's hard to find parts here. MPS Autosalvage in GA has a lot of parts and I'll check with them. Thanks for the suggestions sir.

I'd get an aftermarket aluminum radiator cover. Dont wast your $ on that ugly OEM plastic.
