Re: engine cleaning
I hear a lot of people say that they use the Mean Green that you can buy at Family Dollar or Dollar General Store. I cleaned my engine before NMRA and I used the engine cleaner at the local car wash. It did a great job but I had some sputtering of the engine as I was trying to leave the car wash. I covered alternator, battery, and coil packs but I think some other electrical parts may have gotten wet but after letting the car dry out for 3 hours it was all good.

yes the mean green is good stuff to youse. but what i do is spray the mean green on a rag and just whip. and after i clean the eng i get me some tire wet and spray the eng down with it. and whip some of the parts down.

Simple green, rags, towel, hose and tire shine foam...
Spray your engine, hoses, etc down with Simple Green. Wait 2-3 minutes, then use the rags to wipe everything down. Take the hose and rinse off the "non-electrical" parts and stay away from the spark plug valley! Use a towel to wipe up excess moisture. Lastly, use the tire shine foam on the hoses, TOPS of the belts, and even the plastic parts of the engine.
