Group of Mustangs/Cobra's on I-94 Sunday?

Friend of mine stated:

I was driving down I-94 on Friday afternoon and had a convoy of Mustang GT's and cobras pass me, must have been 30 of them in all, very cool, some of them sounded very nice

they all had a license plate with just 2 digits on it? 79, 80, etc.

yeah considering i've never seen a 2 digit plate before i thought there was a minimum number you could have

There is no minimum letters/numbers on a license plate, it's all based on availability. There seems to only be a restriction on the maximum letters/numbers.

From the Secretary of State's website:

The number of characters allowed depends on the license plate design.
University, Special Cause and Veteran plates are not available for motorcycles, trailers and commercial vehicles.
Spaces are allowed and are counted as characters.
Only letters and numbers (A-Z, 0-9) are allowed on a personalized plate.
Symbols such as (!, @,#,$,%,^,&,*) cannot be used.
We cannot guarantee or reserve your selection.

That's probably more than you wanted to know but there you have it!
