Ford's Romeo plant hits milestone!!

At the Romeo Engine plant in Romeo, Michigan Ford employees have been building engines since 1991 when it was converted from an old tractor factory. Just recently they built their 10 Millionth engine, a 4.6-liter Modular V-8 that is headed for a 2010 Mustang GT.

Starting in 1991 the Romeo engine plant began building modular V-8's for the 1991 Lincoln Town Car which was rated at 190 hp and 260 ft-lbs of torque. Since than they have built many versions of the mod motor for luxury cars, SUV's, trucks and high performance sports cars like the Shelby GT00 and Ford GT. These days the Romeo engine plant assembles two-valve and three-valve versions of the 4.6-liter V-8. The engine plant will be building Ford's latest Mustang GT motor rated at 315 horsepower and 325 ft-lbs. of torque.

The plant is also home to the niche production line where the first version of the 4.6-liter V-8 Cobra Motor was hand built in 1996. All Cobra motors from 1996-2004 including the supercharged 4.6-liter motor found in the Terminator have been hand built on this line. Today the niche line is busy building the latest version of the supercharged 5.4-liter 540 horsepower motor for the 2010 Shelby GT500.

The Romeo engine plant not only builds engines but also produces several components including iron and aluminum engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts and connecting rods.

Engines roll off the 4,000 foot production line at a staggering pace of 140 per hour.
