Jan 17th Meeting Overview
Well the first meet of the year accomplished alot.. Even in the colder temps we still managed to have 17 rides come out for the night. No newbies tonight. A few peeps shared rides, so the count of rides for the night would have been more. Still this was very good, considering it was still dark outside and temps in the 30's. Tonight we also watched the DVD of pics and events that the club has done over the past couple of years. The DVD lasted for 45 minutes. DVD's are available for $1.
Items discussed for the night:
March Madness: It's official we'll be doing March Madness again and the date is March 28, 2009. Still needing volunteers to help with Tech Booth, Car Show, Gate Control, Car Judging and Admission Booth. Now's the time to pass out flyers and hit all the car clubs about the upcoming event. Some new changes to the format, only 3 classes of race competition: Outlaw (Bracket Format), Street and Bike (Ladder Format).
Tail of the Dragon: Round 4, this years event will be Aug 21 -23. Staying in Pigeon Forge again for the weekend. Looking to also run the Devil's Triangle this trip too, if gas prices don't sky rocket out of control.
St Patricks Day Parade: This year we will not participate in the parade, after what happened at the beginning of the parade last year. The group may still go to the event and festival as a whole, but no parade.
Group Survey: The results of the survey given out about what the members would like to do more as a club for 2009.
1. Car shows - 12 votes
2. Racing events - 16 votes
3. Cruising events - 11 votes
4. Cruise-ins - 12 votes
5. Picnics - 11 votes
6. Additional hangouts - 10 votes
7. Car washes - 8 votes
8. Different meeting locations - 9 votes
9. Tech days - 13 votes
Some addititonal comments to the surveys; More drive-in nights, Summer event like March Madness, Club test-n-tune nights, Road course events, Family day, membership drive, Tech classes and Group/Car photo day.
Superspeedway Road Course: Music City Mustang Club will be having their road course event at the Nashville Superspeedway. Looking to doing a group outing to the track.
WMC Racing Division: TJ was announced as the Racing Moderator for the racing division and discuss some of the details involved with racing in the division this year. Also TJ will keep all the points and stats on the year. Additional questions directed to TJ for WMC Racing Division. March Madness will be a WMC Event. The WMC Racing T-shirts are available and may be purchased now. Racers in the division will recieve a T-shirt upon paying into the racing division. Non Racing members may purcahse a T-shirt for $15.
Election of Officers: President and Vice-President will hold elections at the end of the year. Nominations for officers will be open to any member seeking to hold an officer position. Ballet elections held in the month of November. Any member seeking to be nominated for office shall be nominated in the month of October. Self nominations are accepted.
NMRA Sponsorship: In order to continue recieving sponsorship from Promedia and Racing Pages. This year the club (at least 10 members) must attend and participate in either NMCA or NMRA car show. The club elected to go to the show in October at the NMRA World Finals in Bowling Green, KY.
Calendars: Mustang calendars with our logo were passed out to members that missed the Christmas party.

When I got home, I thought about how much fun it would be to do a poker run but in the mustangs. Kinda like how the bikers do it but in the cars instead of the bikes. you pick 5 places and cruise to those five place and then draw cards. The hands cost between 5 to 10 dollars and then Advertised by words of mouth can raised from 500 to I have seen thousands in some big major bike events. my piont about this is it a way to raise money for the club but yet have fun crusien in the cars while doing it. If you think you might want to do this just let me know and I will help you do it.
Anouther thought I had would be a polar bear run. The bikers do this in Jan and evan have patched made up. It is a cruise during the day and on the patch is put the coldest temp, now I know we are in heated cars but again the crusies are done on nice country roads and make for a nice drive to the place. Just some ideas and like I said it you wanted help with any of these, I would be more then willing to help you out.
The last idea is a scavenger hunt done with riddles. it is Again anouther way to raise money for the club but yet have a fun way of doing it. you come up with 5 riddles that taken people to diferant places to collect like a business card or a resturant coaster or a papers flyer to show they have been there. Same thing just like the poker run it cost 5 bucks to do the scavenger hunt at the end can be prizes for the fastest, most orginal stuff gathered, Anyway getting people to come to stuff like this could be words of mouth with flyers and can be a way to bring differant car clubs together. Just a thought. let me know what you think about some of these ideas?

I love doing this event. I was wondering if We can Also Go to the Wheels through Time musem while we are there. Its not far and would be a nice for the the area we are in. They have everything from old motorcycles to old cars and trucks. Its from what I have heard so worth the drive there. they have a web sight if you want to check it out and from what I was looking at its not that far from the area. www.wheelsthroughtime.com Well this might be a wash out I just heard a nasty rummer that they might be moving out of the area. I am still trying to get info about this for you.

What happened at the St. Patricks Day Parade last year? I must have missed it (being I'm always last in the line up) or forgot about it.

The incident with someone getting hung up on a speed bump and spinning his tires on gravel and getting ticketed for it.

I remember now...still...some of the club got tickets at the Tail of the Dragon also. If we cut out all the things we get ticketed at...we wont be doing anything....

Getting ticketed for something you did intentionally (donuts?) is one thing, but getting a "stupid" ticket for something like that speed bump and throwing gravel maybe a foot is a totally different animal.
(Keep in mind that there are certain donuts that cops DON'T like. LOL)

Re: Jan 17th Meeting Overview
As I remember...the car wasn't sitting that low to get hung up on the speed bump and he could have backed up a few inches to get a better start at it. I still believe the cop was wrong, but we were also warned in advance that if we spin tires...it was (just about) an automatic ticket. No body but us had any trouble with that speed bump and the cop was there the whole time. The year before...someone spun the tires (intentionally) and was escorted out of town. The cops, in all fairness, have to be on top of these parades because you have kids running out in the streets. People have been killed in other parades, car shows, cruise-ins, recently...and the cops dont want a repeat of that. Cops are going to keep a closer eye on us hot rodders.

We where lined up and I think most people feel that erin ask for us to come down but its only so that they can ticket us and give the mustang a hard time. I personally was there and I felt the whole thing was very stupid and I personally dont want to evan go around erin there is too many other nice places to go that I feel given them my time and money and just something I am not going to do when my club and or club members are treated like that!!!!
Just because we have mustang should not mean that erin can treat us badly. I feel we gave them respect and I dont feel that our club get respect back from them. to me its not worth the court cost and lawyers to go there again. I personally feel they need to learn that you dont treat people like that. I know nashville has a nice parade and I also know the nashville does things for saint patties day. I would rather go to nashville then to go anywhere in ERIN.

Re: Jan 17th Meeting Overview
I have been to Erin 4 times and not had any issues. My car sits kinda low and didn't have an issue with the speed bumps on the days of the parades(both years that I went to the parade). It wasn't wet out and the parking lot in question didn't have hardly any gravel in it.

well I was there that day and I can see your piont about certin things, but I know that when I stopped in the same area when we where inching forward I almost did the same thing. A car with alot of power will spin the back tire evan if not done on putpose. I am not sure about the kind of car that it was but I do know that I dont know how to drive my car and at that time I had the car only 5 months and not much drive time in it. I know I amlost killed the car trying to get over the speed bump just because I was scared I would spin the tires. I did not spin my tired there but I did spin my back tires one time on a wet road when the light turn geen and I was not trying to. it scared the crap out of me that day and it was wet that morning before we went to the parade because we all where cleaning the rain drops off our cars that day. I dont think it was done on purpose only because when I did it at the red light that we had stopped at on the way there I did not do it on purpose and like I said when I did the short spin it kinda scared me at that time because I did not know how to drive my car.

Re: Jan 17th Meeting Overview
Dead Issue::: 21 members were at the meeting, the subject of Erin's St Patrick parade came up and members voted against it. Only 3 of the 21 present wanted to go back this year. That's a majority vote!!!
