Calling all Veterans, both former and current. Here's a few things that I've found that our Military Veterans will recieve free or at a discounted price during Veterans Day..

1. Applebee's is offering a free meal to Vets - check website for a location in your state.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants invite all active duty and veterans to one of 164 participating restaurants nationwide to pull up a chair for a delicious meal and heartfelt thanks this Veterans Day. With gratitude for their service and sacrifice, active duty and veterans will eat free at participating locations on Veterans Day (November 11, 2008) during regular business hours.

Veterans and active duty with proof of United States military service will be able to go to one of the participating Applebee's and select one complimentary entrée from a selection of delicious favorites: a savory House Sirloin, hearty Riblet Basket, zesty Fiesta Lime Chicken®, a juicy Quesadilla Burger or fresh Oriental Chicken Salad. All the traditional sides are included.

"It's an honor to host an event that helps the neighborhood come together and say thanks to our veterans and active servicemen and women," said Mike Archer, President, Applebee's Services, Inc..

Proof of military service includes:
• U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card
• U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card
• DD214
• LES
• Citation or Commendation
• Photograph in uniform
• Veterans Organization Card

2. Lowe’s, Home Depot offer discounts

The Home Depot and Lowe’s, the world’s largest home improvement retailers, once again are offering a 10 percent Veterans Day discount to active-duty service members, reservists, retirees, veterans and their immediate family members.

The Lowe’s discount is available Nov. 6 through Nov. 11 on purchases of up to $5,000 in U.S. stores from merchandise in stock and special order. The maximum discount would be $500. The discount does not apply to sales at http://www.lowes.com, previous sales, or purchases of services or gift cards. To qualify, you must present a valid military ID or other proof of service.

The Home Depot discount is available Nov. 6 through Nov. 12 on purchases up to $2,000, for a maximum discount of $200. The discount is offered at The Home Depot stores, The Home Depot Design Center locations, Yardbirds and EXPO Design Center locations. To get the discount, you must provide proof of military service when checking out, and the discount will be applied at the register.

In addition to providing military discounts at specific times during the year for the last several years, the two retailers extend benefits for their employees called to active duty, and actively seek to hire military personnel after they leave the service.

Other efforts include The Home Depot’s Project Homefront, in which $1 million and 1 million volunteer hours have been donated to help military families with home repairs while their service member is deployed.

3. GOLDEN CORRAL MILITARY BUFFET: On Monday 17 NOV 08 from 5 to 9 pm, all 485 Golden Corral restaurants across America will offer any person who has served in the United States Military (including National Guard and Reserves) a "thank you" dinner buffet and beverage on the house - no identification required. This will be the eighth annual "thank you" dinner for our nation's heroes from Golden Corral restaurants, who have provided over 1,835,000 complimentary meals to military personnel over the history of the event and contributed over $2.53 million to the Disabled American Veterans organization. For the second year, Golden Corral's guests and restaurant teams may send personal greetings to America's military personnel on active duty overseas. From 1 SEP through 17 NOV 08, special postcards will be available at all Golden Corral restaurants for sending messages of thanks and encouragement to the troops overseas. They will be delivered to our troops prior to the Holidays. In 2007, over 55,000 Military Appreciation post cards were delivered to military troops stationed overseas. To locate a restaurant near you refer to http://www.goldencorral.net/ and enter your zip code.

4. U.S. Veterans, members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families will be admitted free-of-charge on Veterans Day to public lands managed by the Department of Agriculture and Department of the Interior. In keeping with this direction, all day-use fees will be waived on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at all standard amenity fee sites operated by the Forest Service.
