Steeda's New Belt Tensioner Empty Steeda's New Belt Tensioner

If you have a supercharged car and read the web forums, you know one of the increasingly frustrating issues is breaking belt tensioners. With the advent of larger superchargers from Roush, Ford Racing, Whipple, people are finding that the tensioner can snap on hard shifts or fast revs when they are really laying on the car.

The reason is that the supercharger load and increased belt length puts additional stress on the factory belt tensioner. A real problem is when you kick the clutch and pull the next gear the RPMS suddenly drop. With the extra rotating mass of the supercharger and weight of all the accessories it will jerk the belt and sometimes hurt your OEM tensioner. It causes it to flex and in the end you usually end up with broken belts that are hard to find and expensive.

Steeda has come up with a relatively simple new solution to the problem, a beefed up version. They actually use the factory part and add additional plating with a nice billet look to help strengthen the arm. This will be a welcome new product to owners of supercharged Roush, Saleen and other bolt on supercharger applications. The strength of the arm is significantly increased over the factory tensioner.

Steeda is offering their new tensioner with a factory pulley or an optional billet one for 2005-2009 Mustang GT applications. More information at www.Steeda.com
