Removing 3-M trim tape
Ok, so I decided to take my side scoops off to repaint them. What is the best way to remove the 3-M double sided tape?

Re: Removing 3-M trim tape
When i took the badges off my old car, I used just water and a very watered down soap/water mix to help it come free. Then just work the tape off with a microfiber towel. its a pain but it'll come off clean and not damage the paint/clearcoat.

A heat gun works best. Just heat around the edges and slowly pull it away from the body. At least it works for me.

Re: Removing 3-M trim tape
I would have said Goo Gone too. Use it all the time at work and it never harms the surface being cleaned and usually removes that residue with ease.

i was going to suggest goo-gone but wasn't 100% sure if it would be safe on the paint

Re: Removing 3-M trim tape
I was at O'Reilly's today getting some 3M tape for a new emblem install on a buddies 2011, with this thread in mind i was looking and 3M makes a Removal solution to remove their tape of cars lol. but its like $15 for the quart and it doesn't take very much at all so i suppose if you were doing a big job it really wouldn't be worth it for that. Thought i'd throw that in this thread being its the subject.

Re: Removing 3-M trim tape
I have one at work. I'll try to get it out of my tool box. I'll let you know.

Re: Removing 3-M trim tape
If you can that would be great... If not that's cool too... The decal in front of my hood scoop has a few missing peices in it. I've already got a replacement one. I'm also going to wait until it warms up and stays that way, so theres no hurry.

Re: Removing 3-M trim tape
What I did with my hood decal was wait until a nice hot Michigan summer day and peel it off while its hot! It will come off in one piece! then the glue will be hot enough to come off with little trouble and a little goo-gone.

Re: Removing 3-M trim tape
there is an attachment that goes into a drill that looks like a big circular eraser. it takes off glue like a champ just be careful not to push to hard for to long it will damage the paint.
