new build for the 96 4v.

i decided to keep the 4v and upgrade it. i purchased 9.4:1 forged 2618 CP pistons, manley billet CNC 4340 i-beam rods, and a forged cobra crank. they are all being balanced at R&R machine shop in huntsville. im not making any changes to the short block otherwise. 120lb injectors, injector drivers, ba3200maf. im going to use a 64mm turbo for shakedown and tuning, then switching to a 76mm unit after i change the transmission to a TH400. gotta add a rollcage, 9" rear end. shooting for 1000rwhp with this one. it should make about 680 crank hp with the small 64mm turbo.

putting a granitelli an10/8 fuel hat into the stock fuel tank with an a1000 pump. also switch to the cobra rails i have, and a firewall fuel regulator. an10/8 fuel lines.

also changing the exhaust crossover to either 2 3/4" piping to 4" oval , or 3" crossovers and 4" oval to 3 1/2" up pipe. i have to remove volume restrictions in the exhaust up pipe. a 4" downpipe with 4" bullet.

Oh, those asprins did the trick. Allowed me to make it home fine. I went to the hospital when I got home, was admitted and had heart surgery. Doing fine now.

picked up the crank, rods, pistons from balancing at R&R yesterday. im gonna pull the car in and get the motor out next weekend. i gotta get the block decked a few thousands to clean it up. because in using 3 valve pistons i can go 4v, or port the 3v heads and use them. with the stall converter, theres no reason to use 3v, not to mention they wont be closer than 100rwhp at higher boost. at 20-29 lbs the 4v will murder 3v. 3v heads can be lightly modded to achieve 250 cfm pretty easily. 4V heads start there.

I gotta order all of the studs, and main bearing girdle. once i get the shortblock rebuilt, ill decide then. compression is 9.4:1.

sounds great! still contemplating if i wanna take out my engine to replaace my v bands and goto a ball and socket style connector

my y pipe is one piece, then i use a band clamp to the up pipe. v band at the turbo. the exhaust from the turbo is part of the turbo mount. i used the turbo exhaust flange 6 bolt pattern as the mount.

i have a 2007 4.6 3 valve im not going to use. it has 5k miles on it. if you ever wanna build a turbo from it or use it let me know. its going cheap. full conversion stuff is included. if you dont want it im holding onto it.

header adapter plates are made, IAC is made, manual throttle body adapter is made, etc. cam position mod is done.

ive talked to a converter specialist for modulars. his name is dirtydogg on the net. he builds for a lot of racers. he also has convinced me to stick with w 4R for this build. ill force OD off in the tune.

the converter alone will run over 1300.00. billet front cover, triple lockups, all the best billet parts inside. he said it wont take 1200hp on a transbrake, but im not going to leave that hard anyway. probably going to leave in the 500rwhp range at 4k. converter will be a 3700 rpm flash converter with full lockup during the run. i cant use wheelie bars.

You won't have enough to even worry about that...

500 is the off the line power. the boost controller will keep adding power the whole run. rotating assembly's max is 1500hp. no doubt you'll leave hard on me, but ill be a-comin in the back half.

ive gotten a number of turbos from them already. they do good work for less.


just got that turbo. i realize the 64mm is really not going to cut it even for tuning. this should be more realistic for temporary use. it will only be good for 900hp or so.


ht 60 is about the same power level as a 76mm garrett. it has a ~73mm inducer.


maybe some day ill use the 64 for something.

i plan to run this turbo till i get the car completed and tuned for this one. then a 80-85 mm radial renegade approved turbo will be installed.

that engine stand is an old one. a 69 pontiac 400 ram air was the first motor ever built on it...in ~1991.

on a side note: the stinking pistons did not come with locks. checked the invoice, and they are not included. had to use the old ones-old being a few years old.
