Missing and Popping
Had a new engine put in the 95 Stang. Installed shorty headers, pulleys, typhoon intake and 70mm TB. Car idles okay. When you drive it, it shakes, and backfires through the intake at low speeds. I have to rev the engine pretty good to get it off line. Other than timing, what can I check? Could bad EGR cause this?

Re: Missing and Popping
a bad EGR will also cause an extremely rough idle... almost as if it were cammed... Are the 95's MAF? If so... make sure the IAC is all clean and connected properly..

Re: Missing and Popping
Yes, they are MAF'd. EGR is about $80. Guess I can have it checked.

Re: Missing and Popping
IACV will do it more than an EGR, EGR's only will cause this usally at cruising speeds. At idle they don't usually pump gas's in.

Re: Missing and Popping
Check the following...
1) MAP or MAF: Connections going to and from the sensor. Clean it with some electrical cleaner or MAF cleaner
2) IAT: This sensor tells the motor what temp the air is entering the motor. If this sensor is dirty or not working it could cause the car to hesitate
3) IAC: This controls the idle of the car. Check the vacuum lines and electrical connections. Clean the unit with electrical cleaner. If needed due to oil build up, clean with carb cleaner.
4) Vacuum lines: Check for dry rotting, cracking, loose, or just plain missing lines.

Thanks All!!!
I checked and cleaned the MAF, seems to be good. Checked all vacuum lines, sprayed with starting fluid to pickup leaks, all seem good.
Found leak in EGR tube at header connection. I want to remove the EGR all together but have read conflicting information across Mustang Forums. Any thoughts on EGR delete?
Car cranks and idles great. Backfiring occurs when taking off and at low speeds. Above about 30 or so I don't notice a backfire but car feels sluggish.

Plugs and Coil is new. Will check wires but seems odd that they would only malfunction at low speeds and not affect idle or high speeds. Appreciate the feedback. It's gotta be something simple making it do it... :*bonk(:

Pull the new plugs and wires, make sure that your gaps are correct. Even the slightest gap issue will give these cars problems.

Re: Missing and Popping
If it's sluggish at idle and low rpm's and speeds under 20mph, then it's the IAC.. Unforunately they go without any warning, especially on the earlier SN95 models.... Particularly if you've already checked vacumn lines and MAF for problems.

Checked plug wires and plugs...all good. I'm pulling the IAC this weekend to check it.

Re: Missing and Popping
Well, you were right...it was the IAC. I took it off and cleaned it, took it for a test run and no more problems. I still need to either remove the EGR assembly or get an EGR pipe fabricated to fit. I have it patched right now with still a little leak...
Thanks to all!

I'm working on it...I removed the EGR and pipe, capped the EGR hole, capped the header hole, and bought an EGR replicator to connect to the electrical. All I need to do now is cap the vacuum lines and fire it up. Am I missing anything?
